I second the idea that diet is more important than exercise. If you eat a paleo diet, avoiding all food that ferments in your stomach such as grains, corn, potatoes, rice and "white food" such as refined sugar, then you can think about exercising to lose weight. Our digestive system is very different than the chimps we descended from millions of years ago. Their stomach protrudes and can break down plants, while ours is similar to a cat and needs to digest meat.

I've tried fasting before but I find I always get pretty bad headaches. Is this something that most people stop experiencing after a while? I'm not sure if I should keep trying or just accept that my bodsy doesn't agree with the regimen.

Hi Nancy a tbs of Yogurt will be ok. Perhaps if you can leave it to say lunchtime on the fasting day if you are going from dinner to dinner will be ok. Also say you were going from 2pm after lunch, you could have the tbs at breakfast the next day. I don't know enough of when you have to take these, so I can't really advise on what is best, but the longer you can leave it the better if possible.

Hi Dave,

I am considering ESE. I take blood pressure medicines 2 x a day, morning and evening and I have to take with food, could just be a TBS of yogurt for example. Does this mean I cannot do ESE?

Casey, if you are only eating once a day, you are already fasting has many different eating windows, but it does mean you have to more than a day without eating. If you are only eating a meal at dinner, you are most likely fasting for 18 hours or more.

Hello, I have spent the last few months being a slob, and overeating and drinking. I am 5'10, when in good shape I am around 170-175. Right now I am at 200. An estimate of my RMR would be around 12000 calories a week. I was consuming roughly 35000 a week for the last 4-6 months, so I gained a considerable amount. I just started cutting back, and I would say with keeping up my eating habits like this, I'll be eating 9000-10000 a week. If I add in an hour of moderate exercise 4 days a week. What kind of weight loss should I be looking at per month? How quickly could I get down to 170? My problem was not necessarily food, as I am a pretty healthy eater, it was beer/booze. I decided to cut that out completely until I am down to my target weight. Thanks

Okay, I am a little confused on this "fasting" thing. Howdoes it work? I thought that it was unhealthy to not eat. And I do not exercise at all. But eat a little healthy foods once a day. And that's at dinner time. How would I start with fasting? How long would it take? I would like to lose atleast 30lbs. or so. Please check in!
Thanks,
     Casey

This was extremely helpful! I kept wondering why I couldn't lose weight even though I jog 3-4 miles 5 times a week with some strength training. I'm very petite so I've been following the incorrect RMR. And of course knowing how many calories I need to consume was really helpful. Thanks!!

I have dabbled with fast 5 and am now taking up running and trying to combine the two. Especially since my running is revving up my appetite and making me gain weight! Does fasting help with this exercise=hunger thing?
