Fasting For Weight Loss – Breaking The Fast

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

If I look at the questions I am asked, I think ones about what I eat when I break the fast, and what I eat on my normal eating days seem to be the most frequent.  I also noticed around some of the other blogs I follow, that they are getting the same thing. Brad Pilon did a post last week of a typical eating day for him . I also noticed John Barban talking about his own eating routine and morning coffee .  It fits well with what I was talking about in my Weight Loss Tips post, about not thinking of foods as good or bad, but to just enjoy what you eat.  So as I just finished a fast, I thought I will post some pictures and some information about what I had when I finished my 24 hour break from eating.

With having 2 kids, often meals in the week are based around what they will eat too, so the meals I mentioned here are a good example of that. Monday evening , my last meal before starting my fast was minced beef and jacket potato with a selection of vegetables. I did not have a desert, but I did have a 3 pieces of cadburys dairy milk chocolate with a cup of tea. Then it was into the fast.

Breaking the fast on Tuesday evening 24 hours later, this is what I ate.

I had 2 burgers in one bun ( Tesco Finest British Beef Burgers ) The bun was a malted grain bap ( also from Tesco)  There was a slice of mature cheddar on the burgers. And a  half dozen  British chunky chips ( oven baked ) Notice there is a touch of green on that plate and a bit in the bun itself, a token gesture, but it is still salad ;)  The picture may not make it clear, but the burger was large, there is 2 quarter pounders in there, and it is on a big plate, trust me it was more than enough to eat.

I followed that up with a cup of tea a slice of  this   Cinnamon and Nutella cake my wife baked , very nice it was too.

Cinnamon Nutella Cake

I would not normally look at the calories, but for this post I have done so as best I can.

The burgers were 185 calories each

The mature cheddar 80 calories

The Malted Bun  240 calories

The Chips     around 80 calories

Some Ketchup and Mayo on there I guess another 60 calories

That is a total of around 830 calories

The cake they say is about 360 per slice, but is for only 12 slices, and I have divided into twice that amount, which would mean about 180, but just to be on the safe side I will estimate up and say 250

So there we go, my calorie intake is somewhere in the region today of 1100 calories. As I write this  I am still feeling very full from the  meal this evening so I think the only thing i am likely to have before bed tonight is a cup of tea or 2, so I would say I am not likely to have more than 1200 calories today. As I pointed out earlier, I don’t really count calories fora meal like this normally, but if I started gaining weight, then I would certainly look more closely but I tend to have a good idea of what calories are in the foods I eat.

Weight Loss Tips – My View

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Well my weight loss before and after pictures resulted in quite a few emails, so I will try and answer the best questions using the video of the next week.  I am still getting used to this video blogging lark , but it still feels a bit strange to be talking into a camera, but I am getting there, and intend to stick with it.

As I mention in the video, It is very hard to give one main weight loss tip, but I do think it is about getting a better relationship with food. Don’t think of foods in terms of good or bad. They say variety is the spice of life, so keep your food choices varied, and enjoy the foods you eat.

Weight Loss Success Pictures

Friday, January 15th, 2010

So time for some more of my weight loss pictures. I have to say, putting these together side by side did shock me. Of course as time goes on, you realise you are losing weight and looking better, but I don’t think anything compares to seeing your before and after pictures side by side.

My Doctor tells me I am now in great shape and health for my age, so for any nutritionists reading who are going to lecture me that I am doing something wrong , please save it for a weight loss forum, because I am not listening.

I know I keep saying it, but weight loss is not complicated, even though the diet industry makes it that way. So  please stop wasting your money on diet pills, and diet supplements, you don’t need anymore diet books. Stop listening to all the crap out there about what you should and should not do.  Become a retired dieter too, and you WILL lose weight. Just give your body a chance to work the way it was meant to. Let it do it’s job, and you will get these results too, without giving up on the food and drinks you love. OK lecture over, it’s Friday night, I am going for a few beers.

Any questions,  just ask what you want in the comments and I will reply. Comments are moderated to keep out all the acai berry and diet pill crap, but I will approve the rest and I will reply.

Weight Loss Success – Fat Loss Proof.

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Weight Loss Success was my goal a year ago. I was always concerned about putting my weight loss pictures online, not because I was worried about my pictures going online for everyone to see, but for the fact they could be taken and used to promote some scam diet pill like acai berry. As an internet marketer I have seen it happen, so I had been reluctant to make them available. I did however want to prove to a few sceptics that my weight loss transformation is true. So today I made a quick video to provide some fat loss proof.

In this video you can see my weight loss before and after photos, which I hope help prove that this blog is a true weight loss story, and I did lose the body fat I claim.

As I am the biggest technophobe when it comes to creating videos and putting pictures in them, I just want to say a big thanks to Jonathan at Guitar Tips Weekly for helping me with it. He’s a bit of a video guru as far as I am concerned. He’s also a great guitar player too ;)

Six Pack Abs At 40 +

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Can You Get Abs when you get past 40 years old ?
Yesterday Jan 10th 2010 was 12 months to the day that I took my first photos to record how I looked. I have taken new photos  on the 1 year anniversary to show how far I came in 12 months in terms of fat loss. The other reason for taking them is to be the starting point for my new target. Yes I am aiming to get my abs showing. Is it possible for a guy in his mid 40′s to be able to get a six pack ? well I am told it is, so let’s see if I can manage it.

After losing 56lbs of fat last year and hitting my target weight 2 months early, I was happy to just maintain my weight  for the rest of the year, and just enjoy reaching the goal I had set at the start of the year, but I also like to give myself new targets, and I think this one is within reach.

From the research I have done, it seems to get 6 pack abs, I have to get my body fat below 10% . I am currently at about 12% ( 20 % lower than this time last year ) so again this is all about diet, all I need to do is use the same flexible eating process I have used to lose the weight I lost in 2009, and just keep going until I get the results I want. I think I need to lose about another 7lbs to do that. After losing so much weight last year, I don’t expect this last 7lbs to come off easily or quickly. I do hope that because of the extra food I ate over the Christmas Holidays, I can get a quick start, but I think a realistic target will be 12 weeks, so that is what I am going to aim for. From Sunday January 10th , I have worked out from the calender that  12 weeks is April 4th 2010, which happens to be Easter Sunday, so that is my target. So, the  goal is set, let’s see how I get on.

I can tell you that I won’t be doing any special types of abs exercises, and I won’t be wasting money any abs machines. My abs are there , I just need to get them showing, and I will do that from diet and losing the fat that covers them.

Weetabix Diet – Will It Work ?

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

So can you lose weight with the weetabix diet ?

Weetabix diet

Weetabix diet

As we start a new year, many of us are looking for one diet or another to help us lose weight. Just over a year ago, I was in that same position.    With over 4 stone ( 56lbs) to lose, my situation was a little different than someone who felt they had put on a few extra pounds over the Christmas  holidays and needed to get back in shape. If you need to lose weight and keep it off, my opinion is the weetabix diet is not going to help you long term. Would I have been able to stick on the weetabix diet for the time it took me to lose 56lbs ?  No chance. I lost that weight by still enjoying the foods I love, no way would I want to be eating weetabix every day. If you love weetabix, then go ahead and eat them, but if your looking for a weight loss solution, I don’t think weetabix will the be the answer.

Baked Bean Diet For Weight Loss ?

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Were  snowed in today, and as my son Joe  has a snow day from School I made a quick video with his help  to talk about the baked beans diet.   Essex mechanic Neil King lost weight on a baked beans-only diet, but is it  viable for long term weight loss ? I don’t know about you, but no way could I have done what Neil did.  I lost 4 stone Neil lost 10 stone, so credit to him, but long term, I think I will stick with what has worked for me.

Fasting For Weight Loss – Post Holiday Fast

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Happy New Year to everyone, have you become a retired dieter yet ?

Easing myself back into intermittent fasting today. I am doing  a shorter than normal fast for the first fast of the new year. I started last night at 10pm, and will end at 6.30 tonight, so a little over 20 hours.  I did wonder after the holidays if this one would be tougher than normal, but it has been very easy, I think my body is glad of the break from eating !.
